This Holding Pattern Visualizer is a useful tool that shows a pilot which input is appropriate, given the assigned holding radius, making it an excellent learning tool.
A perfect learning tool for experienced instrument pilots, students and a practical teaching aid for flight instructors.
The FAA Knowledge Exams have approved the use of the Hold Pattern Display!

Imagine you are heading heading 055 when the air traffic controller communicates to you "...wait east of VORTAC ABC on radial 090, with turns to the left...".
This distance is enough to invoke a rapid heartbeat in even the most experienced pilots. Although hold patterns can be used in any instrument flight, hold clearances are issued infrequently to get pilots a little rusty on the procedures.
Displaying a holding pattern from a current position is one of the most challenging aspects of instrument flight. ASA's holding pattern computer shows pilots which input is appropriate for the assigned holding radial. The design not only shows the proper input procedure for standard and non-standard patterns, but also shows how pilots arrive at this input, given the aircraft's current heading.
Hold pattern practice is now part of the instrument currency requirements (every 6 months, instrument-rated pilots must execute 6 instrument approaches and practice intercepting and following a NAVAID, as well as holding procedures). This handy pocket tool can be used as a refresher on the ground as well as a quick reference guide in flight.
