Since December 17, 1903, when the Wright brothers achieved the feat of making the first successful self-propelled flight in history, the eagerness to conquer the air and the intention to make warlike use of the new devices was a constant on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Spain was no exception. Thus, in 1909, Colonel Pedro Vives and Captains Alfredo Kindelán and Emilio Herrera toured France, Great Britain, Germany and Italy in order to conduct an exhaustive study on the possibilities of dirigible balloons and the then called airplanes. Here begins the history of Spanish Military Aviation. The authors of this volume offer us a complete and detailed vision of the evolution of aviation in our country.
