Spanish Military Aviation began its development at the beginning of the 20th century thanks to some daring aviators who, in the primitive aeroplanes of the time, began to take to the skies over Spain and soon realised the importance that air power was going to have in the future. The Air Force (EA) took over from Military Aviation and, although it is the youngest component of the Armed Forces, it has already been at the service of the Spanish people for more than seventy-five years. With air assets and ground units, the men and women of the EA are ready and willing to guarantee the inviolability of our airspace and to contribute to the security and well-being of all Spanish citizens, within the framework of the joint action of the Armed Forces. Furthermore, our Army plays an important role in the common defence structures of the multinational organisations to which Spain belongs.
The purpose of this book is to provide a rigorous, simple and entertaining overview of the history of Military Aviation and the Air Force from its beginnings to the present day. The book is aimed primarily at all those who have wanted to develop their professional life in the EA, although it may also be useful for those who wish to learn about the history of Spanish Military Aeronautics. In addition to this prologue, the book has an introduction, twelve chapters, a reflection on the exciting future of aerospace power and the profiles of some outstanding aviators.
