Hunter M-422A (G-1) represents antiquity through aging by number of landings (200) on aircraft carriers by pilots of Corsair, Helicat or Dauntless aircraft or in its namesake, the Grumman TBF "Avenger" torpedo boat.
Flying, during battles in the Pacific, in salt spray, walking the flight deck while maneuvering against the wind, whether in the Solomon Islands, Okinawa, Iwo Jima or the Philippines, always ready, always alert.
This valuable warm garment was adopted as a second skin by those who fought in inclement weather in enemy territory.

History
From the first applications of aviation (1910-1920), the flight uniformity of pilots in general was focused on combating the cold and the impact of the air, for which they adopted the clothing used by motorcyclists, such as the use of airtight glasses, scarves, scarves, gloves, hats and leather jackets.
But if it was cold on flights over land, in those over the sea it increased exponentially because of the humidity. For this reason, in 1938 the US Navy pilots adopted the m-422 jackets, made of goatskin, similar to the A2 used by the US Army pilots, but reinforced with a sheepskin collar. It also had a bi-swing at the back and at the beginning of the lower part of the sleeves, under the arms, to facilitate the movement of the arms and the placement of warm clothing underneath.
In 1947, the official flight jacket was renamed G-1, and this design has been maintained to the present day. The era of the massive use of jet fighter planes, with the beginning of the Vietnam War, makes it unnecessary to use these flight jackets in flight, so they remain on aircraft carriers and air bases.

The "G-1" leather jacket, with its particular "V" design, to avoid snagging with the cockpit control levers, is the most used in the history of the US Navy, making it prestigious in itself and desired by aviation enthusiasts.
