Monográfico Airbus A380. El Gigante del Aire
About to enter the 1990s, a select group of Airbus engineers began designing a very high-capacity (800 passengers) model that would be larger and more efficient than the Boeing 747.
Seventeen years later the A380 flew. Technology and innovation had been taken to the extreme and the result was a near-perfect machine.
The aircraft's media impact was on a par with that of its competitor, which it practically wiped off the map, relegating it to make do with the cargo version.
But the Airbus A380 was late because the Boeing 747 was no longer its competitor, but the new twin engines, as big as the Jumbo, but much more efficient than any four-engine.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 dealt the final blow to an aircraft that had already announced the closure of its production line. But the A380 is still a relatively new aircraft, which guarantees it many years of life ahead and, who knows... perhaps it will be needed more than ever in the next air traffic boom. Will it be its time then?
