Monográfico SIKORSKY SH-3. AVION REVUE
The Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King was designated S-61 by Sikorsky. It is a multi-purpose helicopter, but primarily intended for anti-submarine warfare (ASW).
The Fifth Squadron was founded with the aim of providing the Navy with a high-performance anti-submarine helicopter to replace the two ASW models in service, the obsolete Sikorsky S-55 of the Second Squadron and the Agusta Bell 204 of the Third Squadron. The arrival of the Sea King meant a radical change in the Aircraft Fleet, in many aspects, operational, technical, training, maintenance, etc. At the end of the 1980s, they were painted naval grey, which is why they began to be called "paqueteras", as they shared the same colour as the vans.
With the retirement of MORSA 06 last November, the Fifth Squadron's Sea King family is down to just two members. What has been the Navy's most versatile helicopter will remain in service until the summer of this year, enough time to finish transferring to the new MORSAs, the SH-60Fs, all the knowledge accumulated over the years in the amphibious and SAO capabilities specific to the Fifth Squadron. It is time to make the most of these last months of idyll with the King of the Fleet.
