The Airbus A340 was designed as a long range, wide body passenger airliner by Airbus in 1987. The first and shortest variant, A340-200, first flew in October 1991 which was 60m in length and accommodated between 210 and 250 passengers. A340-600 was the largest A340 to be built, with a length of 75.4m and a capacity of 320-370. By the end of 2021, the aircraft had transported over 600 million passengers with no fatalities and completed 2.5 million flights.
