How does the ProFlight Series 2 headset differ from the previous model?
We have made numerous improvements based on customer feedback. The main improvement is the thinner and lighter cable that offers greater flexibility to provide improved comfort and stability, as well as reducing the overhead weight by 11 grams.
The touch control for off-line intercom communications has also been improved. The boom microphone now incorporates flaps to allow for proper alignment and adjustment of the microphone. Finally, we have also improved the carrying case for easier storage and transport with the addition of a belt loop and carabiner, plus a more open internal design.
What is the difference between ProFlight Series 2 and A30 headsets and are they suitable for all types of aircraft?
They are completely different headsets and have different fundamental architectures, but share features such as Bluetooth capability, stereo/mono audio selection and automatic on/off. The A30 model has a closed external design and is suitable for noisier aircraft, such as non-pressurized single-engine models. The ProFlight Series 2 model has an internal headset design, and is suitable for manned aircraft that are normally pressurized and have less noise, such as most jet aircraft.
How many different versions and configurations are available for the ProFlight Series 2 headset?
Customers can configure their ProFlight Series 2 pilot headsets in a variety of ways. In addition, they can choose the connector settings with each module. Connector configuration is available in Bluetooth and non-Bluetooth, two-pin and 5-pin configurations. Designed for use in civilian and military aircraft, ProFlight Series 2 headsets offer most common connector settings:
Dual G/A connector (PJ 068 and 6.3 mm stereo): With this option, the headset is connected to the aircraft intercom via a dual connector and is not powered by the aircraft. Two AA alkaline batteries provide a minimum of 45 hours of in-flight operation. This configuration is the most common version purchased by pilots.
5-pin XLR plug: Often called the Airbus connector, this configuration is a mono connection to the aircraft and, depending on installation, may receive aircraft power. When disconnected, the flexible power feature allows the headphones to switch seamlessly between aircraft power and battery power. In this way, users experience no interruption when the headphones are connected to or disconnected from a power source.
6-pin connector wired to the aircraft (LEMO): With this option, the headset is connected to the aircraft via a 6-pin connector and receives power directly from the aircraft. When disconnected, the flexible power feature allows the headset to seamlessly switch between aircraft power and battery power. Can I wear glasses comfortably with the ProFlight Series 2 headset?
Yes. The side pads rest lightly behind and above the ear, so you can put on and take off your glasses without touching the earpieces. You can wear almost any type of eyewear you want without sacrificing noise reduction or comfort.
Can I change the microphone sideways?
Yes, the integrated boom microphone and cable assembly can be connected to the left or right side of the headset. The self-guiding connector makes it easy to connect the boom microphone and cable assembly. The cable is quickly replaced in seconds and without the need for tools.
How long does the ProFlight Series 2 headset battery last?
With the two AA alkaline batteries, the ProFlight Series 2 headset will operate for at least 45 hours of flight time in an aircraft with normal noise. With continued Bluetooth operation, battery life will be at least 25 hours. As usual, battery life will vary depending on battery type, noise environment and functions used. The battery life indicator light on the headphones alerts the user when the batteries need to be replaced.
How does the ProFlight Series 2 headset differ from the A30 pilot headset in terms of noise reduction?
The ProFlight Series 2 model does not provide as much total noise reduction capability as the A30 pilot headset.
