WWII Government Issue A-2 Cockpit Jacket

History

Easily one of the most iconic flight jackets ever worn, the Type A-2 flying jacket has become as legendary as the U.S. Army Air Force Pilots and aircrew who wore them during World War Two. The A-2’s origins go back many years before the war even began when it was introduced in 1931 as the replacement to the A-1 flight jacket previously worn by aviators during the 1920s. The A-2 was produced in large quantities through 1943 and would become prized possessions for pilots and aircrew who wore them even after the war was long over.

The stories the jackets could tell were often expressed in the way pilots and crew customized their A-2s with unit patches, and more often with painted artwork, unique to the individual wearer, or reflecting the nose art of their aircraft. The Cockpit USA WWII Government Issue A-2 is a tribute to this legendary American jacket. Just like the original contract specifies our A-2 brown leather flight jacket is finely crafted from full grain horse hide, finished in Seal Brown, or our dark brown Mahogany. Tanned to resemble a new out of the box look the horse hide will break in overtime revealing the unique grain of the leather, and a classic worn patina. We have also taken special care to tailor this A-2 to fit truer to size for today’s body, and build.

All these features make this the perfect everyday wear jacket while still retaining the classic A-2 shape and look.
