On a hazy summer night eleven people take off on a private jet bound for New York. Ten of them belong to the high society of the United States. The eleventh passenger is Scott Burroughs, an artist in low hours. Sixteen minutes later, the unthinkable happens: the plane crashes into the ocean. Only the painter and a four-year-old boy, the last member of an immensely rich and powerful family, survive.

As the story of each of the passengers is uncovered, strange coincidences emerge that point to a conspiracy: was it mere coincidence that some of the most influential figures in television and Wall Street perished in an accident?

Soon a campaign of media harassment begins that threatens to sink Scott, who will struggle to stay afloat while the authorities hope to find the truth in the wreckage of the accident.
