100 Años de la Base Aérea de Getafe. 1920-2020 has a detailed study that reviews the most relevant events of this site since May 26, 1911, when it was chosen as the finish line of the Raid Paris-Madrid, the first international sporting air race in the world.

These same grounds were shortly after the headquarters of the first private civil aviation school, founded by Cavalry Captain José González Camó, and later became the headquarters of the National Aviation School (ENA), also known as the Getafe Aviation School.

At the same time as a school, it was consolidated as a civil aerodrome first and then as a military aerodrome until March 18, 1920, when the first four Air Bases in Spain (Madrid, Zaragoza, Seville and León) were created, Getafe was given the great honor of being the first air base of the 1st or Central Region, which corresponds to Madrid.
